How to Build Your Own Fitness App

This is the framework for building your own fitness app. No code, just Claude and the gear you already wear.

The build I use as the example is the one I build live in the 4-Week Fitness App Challenge video series: MileStreak, a little app that tracks how many days in a row I've run.

The 7 steps

  1. Pick one idea. Start with the app you always wanted, then cut it down to the one thing it does. Mine: go for a run, open the app, the streak goes up by one. If the app does that one thing, it is done enough to ship.

  2. Write the plan. Claude interviews you about the idea, then writes a PRD: the one document it builds everything from. Claude builds what the plan says, so a vague plan gets you a vague app.

  3. Design it. Pick a style, map every screen on a flow board, then make the logo, the icon and a mascot. Mine is a trail shoe that waves at you on every day that counts.

  4. Build it with Claude. One screen at a time. You describe it, Claude Code writes it, you test it on your phone.

  5. Plug in your data. Connect the watch, ring or strap you already wear, so the app fills itself in. Mine reads my runs from Apple Health on iPhone and Health Connect on Android.

  6. Add a paywall. Only if you want to charge for it. Keep the core free and sell one extra. Mine is $1.99 a month or $10 a year for one extra feature.

  7. Ship it. Put it on real phones with TestFlight, then submit it to the App Store.
