What I got wrong about the headline, and the one thing it still tells us about where AI is heading.

ChatGPT and the Navier-Stokes Problem

Last week I made an Instagram post about ChatGPT solving Navier-Stokes, one of the seven Millennium Prize Problems in math.

What I got wrong

I originally thought it would be a groundbreaking discovery. Thanks to some great feedback on the post, I learned that many existing fluid dynamics models already rely on the basic foundation of these equations. So the result doesn't change much about how we view the world today.

What it still tells us

But it does point to one very powerful thing:

These AI models are quickly approaching superhuman intelligence. It's only a matter of time before they surpass our fundamental knowledge.

That leads into a bigger question: should we be slowing the rate of AI adoption? I'll share my take on that soon.

Curious what you think.
